I swear this has been the most challenging painting I've ever done. The colouring itself was fine! The background, the lighting: all fine.
It was drawing the bloody thing in the first place that was the hard bit! Lovecraft's critters are never fully described (for horrific effect), and if they are, they're described in weird terms. Byakhees, for example, are described as, "Not moles, nor ants, nor crows, nor partially decomposed human beings..." and so on. I can't remember the quotation exactly, but that's how it runs, basically.
So what are they, then? Big Red Fire Engines? They're nothing like ants, crows, moles or zombies...

So I combined elements of all of them and came up with this boy. Isn't he cute? This may even be a print at some point, if you're good.

Yes. They were difficult. Bat wings are always difficult.

I love it, a good interpretation of a Byakhee and a great bit of art!

Only one criticism really, and that's as a Lovecraft purist really - the colour should be much darker, and it should be literally rotting, as in bits falling off, holes, putresence, maggots etc, whereas yours looks vaguely reptilian.

But I love it all the same :)

Oh, I got dumped. Again.
One of these days I'll make sure I do something to deserve it...
